Curated by Helen Nisbet, Art Night’s 2019 edition took place in Walthamstow and King’s Cross. Selected as part of the Open Call, I was, but just awake is the outcome of a two month-long collaboration with artists and Waltham Forest Community Hub. With more than 10 practitioners, the project explores how womxn collaborations manifest in visual arts, text, performance, music, design and local community groups. Organised in a derelict Thailandese restaurant located on 202 Hoe Street, the evening aims to foster a multiplicity of viewpoints; pursuing a space of participation, developing community engagement, and contributing to the local creative and collective production. Including a collection of texts selected by Ifeanyi Awachie, Kris Beaghton and Sophie Hoyle, it is accompanied by a series of artist-led workshops:
• Reworkshop, with Tenant of Culture,
• Ink from Earth, with YaYa Bones,
• Movement for Womxn Empowerment, with Camille Barton.
Organised by Leïla Arenou, Canan Batur and Estelle Marois
